The 22000 Standard requires that Management develop a food safety policy. This is a statement that management will compose that reflects the organizations commitment to providing a safe product. Stating the goal that the company will continually strive to meet, it will provide a basis for business objectives that support the policy. Once the food safety policy is established, objectives can be defined that are measurable and that when met will result in meeting the terms of your food safety policy.

Management will set the objectives. Developing objectives can be done in a number of ways and will depend on the size of the organization. Top management may establish some overall objectives and then have each department manager set objectives for the department to support the overall objectives. It is common to see objectives "cascade" throughout the organization like this.
